Chengdu delves into software

The second Chengdu International Digital Entertainment Week will be held in the Chengdu Science and Technology Street from Sept. 1 to 14, China Daily reported.

The Chengdu International Digital Entertainment week, sponsored by the Chengdu city government, will host an array of events. There will be a forum on the developmental trends of China's digital entertainment sector, an e-game competition open to South Korea and Russia, a display of famous digital products and an animation and cartoon design competition and exhibition, China Daily reported Zheng Heping, deputy secretary - general of the Chengdu city government as saying.

The Chengdu city government has held the event with the intention to groom the city's software sector as one of Chengdu's main industries. This is considering that the city is located inland and physical products manufactured in the city take five days longer to reach other countries, compared with other coastal Chinese cities, the report said.

Currently, Chengu boasts of being the educational and scientific research center in China, with 33 institutions of higher learning and 70 scientific research institutes. Chengdu houses about 630,000 scientists and technicians.
