China Guodian Corporation Launches Construction Plans for Second Half 2007
According to the mid-year working conference for China Guodian Corporation (CGDC) (Beijing, China) held at Harbin, the capital city of Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province, the power generation output of CGDC reached 123 billion kWh in the first half of this year, an increase of 17.9% compared with the same period of previous year. Newly added installation capacity of 4,627 megawatts (MW), and the controllable installation capacity reached 49,080 MW.
In the first half of this year, CGDC gained good achievement by taking “replacing small unit with large unit” as an opportunity to promote its structure adjustment. Based on the promise to shutdown 5,055 MW of small thermal power units during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” (2006-2010), CGDC decided to increase the shutdown capacity to 6,297 MW. CGDC plans to shutdown 1,976 MW of small thermal power units within this year, and 736 MW of them have already been smoothly shutdown. Through the arrangement of “replacing small unit with large unit”, CGDC plans to build 13,900 MW of new large units, which have been submitted to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) for approval.
According to the arrangement of the meeting, CGDC will accelerate its strategic innovation to promote the power industry into a large and strong core industry based on scale operations with support from “resources” and “technology”. While ensuring the commissioning of 10,330 MW of new units in the latter half of this year, CGDC will also pay close attention to strengthening its development through mergers and reformation.
According to the overall consideration of “with resource market as the base to promote technical capacity, with priority giving to hydropower and wind power, and top priority for energy conservation and environmental protection,” CDGC will mainly focus on the development thermal power units at 600 MW or above with high parameters and high efficiency, as well as 300 MW combined heat and power units.
