Fuel Surcharge For Hong Kong And Macao Lines

Airlines companies have increased their fuel surcharges recently, which has resulted in a markup of airfare for some lines outside of mainland China, including those to Hong Kong and Macao.

From August 1, China Southern increased the fuel surcharge for flights between mainland China and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to HK$103 for single trip and HK$206 for roundtrip, respectively, from the original HK$100 for single trip and HK$200 round trip, respectively.

Dragonair also started on that day to raise the fuel surcharge for flights between mainland China and Hong Kong by about RMB4 for each flight section. As it is the airline that runs the most flights between Hong Kong and mainland, Dragonair's move affects many passengers.

Lufthansa Airlines had earlier also adjusted the fuel surcharge for all its long-haul flights from July 20.

A main reason for each airline company to increase their fuel surcharge is due to the increase of the crude oil price in the international market. However, this oil price change won't affect domestic flights.
