Keppel to use Nantong shipyard to build specialised vessels

Keppel Corporation has opened a new shipyard in Nantong China, which will be used for building specialised vessels such as tugboats and anchor handling tug supply vessels.

The shipyard will help to meet growing demands for specialised vessels to serve the offshore field development market, Liquefied Natural Gas terminals and maritime ports.

The Keppel Nantong Shipyard is capable of building up to 25 specialised vessels.

Choo Chiau Beng, Senior Executive Director of Keppel Corporation, said: "Efficiency and productivity (at the shipyard) will approach Singapore's level in a very short time.

"As you can see here, there are two supply vessels under construction and we are hopeful that we can continue to invest and improve upon the facility here."

Keppel is a major player in the offshore and marine sector.

It is currently building 18 vessels for clients around the world.
