Philips pulls PDP out of China
Royal Philips Electronics has withdrawn from the plasma display panel (PDP) market in China.
A report carried by Beijing News cited a company spokesperson saying that Philips has withdrawn from the PDP market due to unsatisfactory demand. Local consumers prefer liquid crystal display (LCD) TV sets instead, the company spokesperson said.
Given that about 90% of the TV sets in the Chinese market are made with LCD panels, Lu Yao, the general manager of the company's TV business department said, rather than selling their PDP sets, Philips will concentrate on developing its own LCD TV instead.
According to an earlier report, sales of LCD TVs in the Mainland reached 3.3 million units in the first half of 2007, while sales of PDP TV sets only hit 900,000 units, Xinhua reported.
Royal Philips Electronics is based Netherlands, providing products, services and solutions in healthcare, lifestyle and technology.
