Tianjin to be the first wireless city in China

Tianjin Municipal Government has gained approval from the Ministry of Information Industry to construct a wireless broadband network in the Binhai New Area, local media reported.

Tianjin has been a priority of the government as it attempts to become China's first wireless city. As media reported, the Binhai New District of Tianjin, or Binhai New Area, is a trial area for China's comprehensive reforms in a bid to boost national economic growth.

The reforms taking place in Tianjin have attracted international wireless service provider giants, according the city much attention. Sources said international enterprises such as Google are conducting research in Tianjin on the implementation of wireless networks.

MuniWireless, a premier conference for the promotion of the city wireless industry, will also be held in China this year for the first time, its first stop being the city of Tianjin. This event will provide the opportunity for industry giants Nokia, Huawei and Intel to come together.

Chief Information Officer of San Francisco and Chicago, Chris Vein and Hardik Bhatt respectively, will be gathering in Tianjin, together with information officials from Singapore and Taipei, to unveil the deployment of the wireless city.

In 2006, Tianjin was selected as one of the world's seven intellectual cities, securing its standing as having a booming economic development and sound investment environment.
