Daqing's first wind power station begins construction

Daqing, a city in Heilongjiang Province known for its oil resources, has begun construction of its first wind power project, state media reported Wednesday.

The first phase of the project is scheduled to be completed in March of next year, with an installed capacity of 50 megawatts, according to news.cnpc.com. After completion, the project will generate 120,000 megawatt hours of electricity each year.

The project was developed by the Rui Hao Corp., a new power company located in Daqing. According to an announcement from the company, it is aiming to establish eight planned wind power projects in Daqing with a combined installed capacity of 300 MW by the end of 2009.
