Jilin Holds 3rd Northeast Asia Trade Expo

Officials and business people from various Northeast Asian countries are now gathering at a regional trade expo in the northeast Chinese city of Changchun.

Participants hope to strengthen regional cooperation and promote friendly relations between individual countries through the four-day event.

Reporter:
The third Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo has attracted delegates from China, Japan, Mongolia, Russia and North and South Korea.

United Nation's Development Program official Nataliya Yacheistova believes the expo will further deepen cooperation between Northeast Asian countries.

"The Expo provides a good platform for companies to exhibit their products, establish cooperation and sign contracts. It will promote harmonious economic prosperity in the Northeast Asian region."

In addition to an international fair, the expo also includes a Russia Business Week, and North Korea and Mongolia Business Days.

A new highlight of this year's expo is an economic and trade cooperation forum.

One of the key topics will be the rejuvenation of China's old northeast industrial base, which has close economic relations with countries in the region.

Song Xiaowu, a senior Chinese official attending the forum, anticipates that the expo will promote the opening-up process of China's northeast.

"An important way to revitalize these old industrial bases is to further open them up to the world. We hope that foreign countries and domestic regions will actively take part in the revitalization efforts. In particular, taking advantage of the expo to expand exchanges and cooperation, and realize a win-win development situation."
