China sets up satellite company
China's sole satellite conglomerate beams into operation today(Tuesday) in Beijing. It's good news for Chinese residents in rural and remote areas since their TV and radio signals will be significantly improved.
As the only satellite operator in China, the new satellite company has integrated satellite resources from China Satellite Communications Corporation, SINO Satellite Communications Corporation and China Dongfang Communication Satellite Company. The resources include assets, work force and projects. The new company is building China's first live radio and television broadcast system. It's believed that the integration will offer economies of scale, control risks and provide technology safeguard.
Ma Xingrui, General Manager of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp. said "The live broadcast satellite company will play an important role in China's satellite operation and application. It will purchase satellites and operate them in space to provide service to the public."
Now the company manages the operation of four synchronous satellites around the earth and will be managing three more soon after they are launched. The company says with its first ever live radio and television broadcasting system, 98 percent of China will be covered. TV and radio signals will be intensified, and signal quality will be improved.
