China seeks int'l co-op on product quality in 2008

In a bid to boost its foreign trade China is to enhance the cooperation with other countries relating to product quality issues, according to Li Changjiang, the director of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) at a national quality supervision and inspection work conference held in Beijing yesterday.

According to Li, China will promote the consultation with foreign countries on the quality supervision and inspections. Inter-government cooperative mechanisms will also be built and extended to guarantee quality and safety of the products.

During the 2008 Olympic Games, the AQSIQ would help Beijing Municipal Food Safety Supervision and Coordination Office with the food safety supervision and sport equipment testing, added Li.

As Chinese products, ranging from drags to toys, have been accused of being substandard, the government has launched a four-month product quality campaign across the country. The AQSIQ has been making efforts to enhance the corporation with other countries. It had signed 47 bilateral documents and built 23 cooperative mechanisms.
