Shanghai plans to cut planned Transrapid extension due to residents concerns
The Shanghai municipality plans to cut the extension of its Transrapid magnetic levitation line to Hongqiao airport by 3 km due to residents' complaints, Der Tagesspiegel reported, citing plans published on the municipality's website.
Transrapid has been developed by German steelmaker ThyssenKrupp AG and engineering conglomerate Siemens AG.
The report said the planned line connecting the city's Pudong and Hongqiao airports will now be 31.8 km long, after residents complained about noise pollution. A large part of the extension will also run underground.
The existing Transrapid track runs 30 km from Pudong airport to a Shanghai suburb.
