China Huadian to up power capacity to 80 GW by 2010
China Huadian Corp, one of the country's five big power generators, aims to raise power generation capacity to more than 80 gigawatts by 2010, from the current 63 gigawatts, its president said on Tuesday.
It is considering an investment in the Fuqing nuclear power project to be built in Fujian, Cao Peixi told Reuters on the sidelines of the National People's Congress.
The Fuqing project is still undergoing feasibility studies and has not yet received central government approval.
Huadian already has a stake in the Sanmen nuclear power plant in the eastern province of Zhejiang.
Huadian will continue to rely on coal for 80 percent of its power generation.
The company is also pursuing renewable energy, including wind, he said.
Shares in its listed unit, Huadian Power International <1071.hk><600027.ss>, have fallen steeply in Hong Kong and Shanghai this year, hit by rising coal prices.
