China's A380 aircraft maintenance hangar completed

Beijing on Tuesday completed the construction of an A380 aircraft maintenance hangar, claimed to be the largest one in Asia.

This giant hangar, located to the north of the new third terminal in the Beijing Capital International Airport, with an estimated capacity to accommodate all Boeing and Airbus series aircraft, including the A380 "superjumbo" aircraft after it is put into operation in April, according to the Aircraft Maintenance and Engineering Corporation (Ameco Beijing).

The hangar, which started to construct in September 2006, is comprised of a maintenance hall and an attached building with investment of RMB 700 million (around US$100 million).

Upon operation, it aims to carry out an annual maintenance services for 11,500 planes, according to the joint venture between Air China Ltd<601111><753> and Lufthansa. And the hangar is expected to provide timely and high quality maintenance services to all passenger flights during the Olympic Games, according to Chai Weixi, the General Manager and CEO of Ameco Beijing.
