China's coal exports drop in Feb
China's coal exports saw a big drop in February, mainly resulting from the winter severe snowstorm, according to sources with the General Administration of Customs on Wednesday.
During the month, China's coal exports totaled 3 million tons, down 32% from the same period of 2007 and 48% from January, at the time, the country's coal exports surged 74.8% to 5.75 million tons, as compared with the 3.29 million tons of the previous year.
China totally exported 8.75 million tons of coal in the first two months of 2008, up 13.5% year-on-year.
According to industry sources on Wednesday, China has reduced its coal export quota for 2008 by 24% from March, to 53 million tonnes, in a bid to meet the country's own coal supply.
