China's Jan power generation up 8.9 pct y/y

The following table shows China's power output by sources of generation in January 2008.

China usually does not issue January data for power output due to a week-long Lunar New Year holiday, which falls in either January or February each year.

January figures were calculated by subtracting the data for February from the cumulative figures for the first two months of the year, and using percentage changes to calculate updated figures for last year's data.

China revises output data, but does not usually publish the revised figures.

Chinese electricity generation (billions of kilowatt hours):

JAN 08 level JAN 07 level Pct chg on yr

Thermal 249.743 231.166 8.0

Hydro 24.971 22.766 9.7

Nuclear 5.312 4.024 32.0

Total^ 283.152 260.004 8.9

^ Including minor sources of electricity not shown separately.
