China's telecom service revenue to hit RMB 69.5 bln in Jan

China's telecom service business volume and its revenue reached RMB 184.6 billion and RMB 69.5 billion in January, up 27.8% and 9.9% year on year respectively, told by China's Ministry of Information Industry (MII).

The number of mobile phone subscribers increased by 8.48 million to 556 million, accounting for 41.6% of China's total population. The number of fixed phone subscribers decreased by 1.50 million to 364 million.

China Mobile<941>, the country's top mobile service provider, ranked the first in terms of subscribers, with 7.04 million new subscribers in January, compared with 6.56 million last December.

Revenue from the mobile network rose by 15.2% to RMB 31.31 billion, accounting for 51.1% in the total revenue of the telecom service industry. However, revenue from the fixed-line service went down 3.9% to RMB 15.93 billion.

In January, the broadband service remained the growth engine for both China Telecom<728> and China Netcom<906>, with 620,000 and 763,300 new subscribers respectively.
