Nestle inaugurates new plant in China

Swiss-based Nestle, the largest food and beverage company in the world, has opened a new ice cream plant in Guangzhou, capital city of south China's Guangdong Province, in a bid to expand its business in one of the world's fastest growing economies.

The food giant has totally invested RMB 250 million into the 22,000-squre-meter factory. With the opening of the new factory, the annual ice cream productivity will be raised to 64 million liters, 3-folded its former annual output.

Nestle entered China mainland market more than two decades ago. It currently opens 20 factories and employs over 13,000 people in 17 regions throughout China.

In 2007, it generated RMB 13 billion sales revenue from the mainland market, up 7.4% year-on-year. It expected it could maintain the same growth pace this year on the Chinese mainland, said the firm earlier.
