Shanghai Pudong airport tests its new terminal

Shanghai Pudong International Airport conducted a dummy operation for its newly built terminal - T2 on Saturday, sources reported.

More than 1,300 people have participated in the test and acted like passengers to experience the whole process from checking in to claiming their luggage at arrivals.

The new terminal, which is also known as the second largest air terminal building in China, has a total floor area of 546, 000 sq m, five times of the current terminal of Pudong airport. T2 is expected to handle 40 million passengers annually, accounting for 55% of the total throughput of the airport.

The average transfer time from domestic flights to international flights or from international flights to international flights is around 45 minutes, according to sources.

The new terminal is scheduled to be put into use on Mar. 26, the same date as the Beijing International Airport Terminal 3 starts full operation.
