Audi unsure on Q5 China production

Audi, the premium subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, said it has not made a decision on whether to build the new smaller SUV, Q5, in China where the vehicle made its debut at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show.

Company chief executive Rupert Stadler rejected media reports that the Q5 would be also made in China, adding that the company's focus is on sales for the vehicles it currently makes in China, such as the Audi A6 L, a long version specially designed for the country.

Audi boasts a share of 45% in China's high-end auto market now. With regard to this remarkable performance, Stadler said it is time of fruit harvest as the company has invested tremendously in Audi since it has had its presence in China for 20 years.
