GM's China commercial vehicle JV opens Qingdao plant
General Motors' China commercial vehicles joint venture opened a new plant in Qingdao, East China's Shandong province on Monday, with an aim to meet the surging demand in the world's second-largest auto market.
The new plant, jointly run by GM, SAIC Motor<600104> and Liuzhou Wuling Automobile, can produce 300,000 vehicles annually.
Meanwhile, GM runs an auto venture in Shanghai with SAIC Motor, with well-known Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet as the main products. The American car maker targets to see an 80% vehicle sales growth from emerging markets, including China, in the next five years.
