Lenovo steps up with new outsourcing plan

Lenovo Group Ltd, China's largest PC maker, plans to outsource the production of its IdeaPad notebooks to three original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

The three OEMs, namely, Quanta Computer Inc., Compal Electronics Inc., and Wistron Corporation, will be granted to make notebooks like IdeaPad Y510, IdeaPad Y410, and IdeaPad U110 for Lenovo. In addition, they are also expected to produce all series of IdeaPad notebooks.

At the beginning of the year, Lenovo launched its Idea PCs, including IdeaPad notebooks and IdeaCenter desktops. IdeaPad Y510 and IdeaPad Y410 were scheduled to make their debuts in Taiwan at the end of March and IdeaPad U110 in May, said Ken Wong, general manager of Lenovo Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Its H-shares closed at HK$5.00 yesterday, slightly up 0.4%.
