Foreign direct investment up in 1st four months

Foreign direct investment in Taiwan during the first four months of this year amounted to US$2.20 billion, marking an increase of 32.17 percent year-on-year, the Investment Commission (IC) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced yesterday.

According to the latest tallies released by the IC, during the January-April period the government gave the green light to a total of 626 investment projects presented by overseas Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs. In April alone, the IC approved 168 investment projects for a combined value of US$1.01 billion.

In terms of China-bound investment by domestic manufacturers, the commission gave the green light to 257 investment projects totaling US$2.95 billion during the first four months of 2008, posting a year-on-year growth of 11.84 percent.
