Taiwan chip makers approved to invest more in the Mainland
Two Taiwan-based chip makers, Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (ASE) and Powertech Technology Inc have won the approval from the authorities of the island to invest additional US$90 million and US$100 million respectively in their mainland plants, sources reported.
ASE will use the capital to fund the development of its Shanghai plant, while Powertech may build a new factory in China.
Another three Hi-tech companies in Taiwan, namely Siliconware Precision Industries Co, Greatek Electronics Inc and Walton Advanced Engineering Inc, were approved to set up plants in the mainland last summer.
