Japan-based Canon Inc (Canon), one of the world's leading manufacturers of digital cameras, hopes sales in mainland China will maintain robust with a 30% increase year-on-year, as per industry sources.

Yokyo-headquartered Canon raked in US$1 billion in mainland China for 2007, disclosed Hisahiro Minokawa, vice president of Canon (China) Co. Ltd in Shanghai, adding that the Japanese company targets to expand its China sales to US$10 billion over the next ten years and its digital camera and other office equipment business secured in double digital growth.

China is still one of Canon's most important markets across the world and its market for digital products, especially digital cameras, still has greater growing potential in the future, according to Minokawa's statement.

As global sales are weakening mainly due to economic slowdowns and less spending in Europe, the U.S. and Japan, Canon has a high expectation of the Chinese market, which is full of potential, Minokawa emphasized.
