China H1 energy consumption per unit of GDP falls 2.88 pct

China's energy consumption per unit of GDP in the first half fell 2.88 pct, the National Bureau of Statistics said.

The coal industry saw a 6.74 pct decline, oil and petrochemicals 1.58 pct, steel 1.05 pct and construction materials 9.98 pct of decline, the bureau said.

In the 11th five-year plan, China set a target to reduce energy consumption per unit of GDP growth by 20 pct during the 2006 -2010 period, or 4 pct per year.
