China's auto imports up 22.55% y/y in July

China's auto imports totaled 35,200 motor vehicles in July this year, representing a year-on-year rise of 22.55%, but 14.50% lower than the month-earlier level, according to the statistics from the General Administration of Customs.

Meanwhile, the import value rose 42.78% from a year earlier to US$1.384 billion, which again represents a month-on-month decrease of 7.30%.

The statistics showed the imports of sedans, off-road autos and mini passenger cars amounted to 33,400 units in July, accounting for 94.89% of the total auto imports.

Month-on-month declines were recorded in different categories. Imports of sedans, off-road autos and mini passenger cars fell 27.95%, 4.90% and 25.89% respectively.

In July, China's imports of sedans hit 11,176 units, down 14.23% year-on-year, and that of off-road autos rose 58.30% from a year earlier to 20,432 units with mini passenger cars up 17.75% to 1,778 units.

Over the first half this year, the total value of auto imports and exports hit US$48.818 billion, with import and export value up 37.12% and 38.39% from a year earlier to US$19.27 billion and US$29.548 billion respectively.

The data also showed that import value of auto products fell 3.59% from June to US$2.936 billion, but up 24.92% over the same period of last year, while export value amounted to US$4.778 billion, an increase of 8.88% month-on-month and 33.01% year-on-year.
