Formosa's Wang Wants China Talks Sped Up
Wang Yung-ching, founder of Formosa Plastics Group, urged Taiwan's government to hasten the pace of cross-Straits talks and widen the scope to meet the needs of Taiwanese businesses, the Commercial Times reported.
The talks should go beyond tourism to include aspects such as a unified customs tax rate, easing investment restrictions, and the protection of Taiwanese interests in China, the Taipei- based newspaper cited Wang as saying in an interview.
Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou, who took office in May, has vowed to improve the island's economy by strengthening ties with the mainland. China and Taiwan in July started regular non-stop weekend flights and allowed more tourists to visit.
Formosa Plastics Group, based in Taipei, controls Formosa Petrochemical Corp., Taiwan's only publicly traded oil refiner.
