PCCW to launch TPTV services in Indonesia

Hong Kong-based PCCW Ltd<8>, the city's dominant telecoms operator, announced yesterday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with two Indonesian companies, namely TELKOM and Telkomvision, to jointly bring world-class Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services to Indonesia.

Pursuant to the MOU, TelkomVision, a direct-to-home satellite television and cable television provider in Indonesia, will provide the IPTV services, including both domestic and overseas programs, to audiences in Indonesia.

Alexander Arena, CEO of PCCW, noted the company made this decision because of the rapidly developing Indonesian market, with a population of 220 million, conceives huge potential business opportunities. He also expressed the confidence that the cooperation with TELKOM and Telkomvision will achieve a satisfactory result .

Previously, PCCW, which was the first telecoms operator that provided multidimensional media services to customers in Hong Kong, had successfully launched the largest scale of commercial IPTV business worldwide .

IPTV is a system where a digital television service is delivered using internet protocol over a network infrastructure including fixed network, internet, TV and moving communicate platform.
