Taishin Shares Rise on Report Bank of Communications May Invest

Taishin Financial Holding Co. shares climbed in Taipei after a local newspaper reported China's Bank of Communications Ltd. may invest in the Taiwan company.

Taishin advanced 6.9 percent, the daily limit, to NT$4.49 as of 9:10 a.m. in Taipei, compared with a 1.4 percent decline in the benchmark Taiex index.

BoCom will invest at least $100 million in Taishin once restrictions on financial-industry investments between China and Taiwan are eased, the Taipei-based Commercial Times newspaper reported today without saying where it got the information.

Five or six of China's big banks have shown interest in Taishin, President Lin Keh-hsiao said, according to the report. He declined to comment on BoCom's plans, Commercial Times said.
