Cross-strait trade grows an average of 36% annually

The trade volume between Chinese mainland and Taiwan in 2007 set a record high, reaching US $124.48 billion, up 15.4% from the previous year. It is 11,316 times that of 1978, recording an average annual growth rate of 36%, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

However, in 1978 the cross-strait trade was only US $50 million, and this included only imports from Taiwan to Chinese mainland.

Currently, Taiwan is the seventh largest trading partner, the ninth biggest export market and the fifth biggest import source area of Chinese mainland.
