Hydropower contributes 16 pct of China generation in '08

Hydropower generation in China increased over the past years as a result of the construction of a great number of the Hydropower plants, according to the China Electricity Council (CEC) in its latest annual review.

Hydropower generation up 19.5 present year on year to563.3 billion KWh in the past year, said CEC.

The hydropower generation took up 16.41 present of the whole generation in the nationwide of 3.433 trillion KWh.

CEC said that China now has 171,520MW of hydro power capacity, which is a 21.64 share of the total generation portfolio. Installed hydro power capacity increased by 15.7 present in 2008 compared to the 2007.

By the end of 2008, 26 generating sets of Three Gorges and 7 generating sets in Guangzhou Longtan Hydropower plant has came fully on-stream.
