ZTE to provide Kenya's top telecom operator mobile phones
China's ZTE Corporation<000063><763> inked an agreement with Kenya's leading mobile phone operator Safaricom on Tuesday to provide 200,000 mobile phone handsets in the country.
Each handset with black and white screen would cost between 1,999 shillings (US$30) and 2,499 shillings (US$45).
Sources from ZET revealed that ZTE would initially provide 200,000 handsets this year, but more units would be available on demand. The handsets will not have the complex features compared with mobile phones in the developed world.
ZTE is a leading global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions. It has a wide product range, covering sectors of the wire line, wireless, terminal and service markets. ZTE has set up 15 research and development institutes in China, the U.S., Sweden, India, Pakistan and France.
