Boehringer Ingelheim eyes booming sales in China

Boehringer Ingelheim Shanghai Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd, a joint venture between German pharmaceutical giant Boehringer Ingelheim International GmbH (BI) and Shanghai Sine Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd, expects its Chinese sales hit RMB 2.3 billion in 2012, triggered by the innovative partnership with Sinopharm Medicine Holding.

Its sales in China reached RMB 697 million in 2007, up 46% from a year earlier when it granted Sinopharm as its sole distributor for all BI products in China.

It is, for both parties, the first time to form a partnership of this kind. The two signed an agreement on Thursday to extend cooperation to the end of 2009.

The cooperation will unify channel management systems, enhance logistics efficiency, improve data management and react quickly to bidding in the market, said Paul Bonnabel, BI China manager.
