JA Solar increases 20 new solar cell production lines in 2008

Nasdaq-listed JA Solar Holdings Co. Ltdhas increased its yearly solar cell production guidance figures from 425MW to 500MW for 2008 due to a rapid increase in the number of production lines planned for the year. Total production output is expected to reach 340MW for 2008.

JA Solar was able to ramp production lines from 75MW in 2006 to 175MW in 2007, and expects to add 20 new production lines to an existing plant and ramp a new plant nearing completion.

The 20 new production lines include ten new cell lines in Hebei, and another ten in Yangzhou during the second half of 2008. The company also intends to set up a R&D facility in Silicon Valley, California.

JA Solar is expected to spend US$132.5 million on capital spending in 2008, out of which US$5 million will be spent on R&D.

The increased production scale and execution capabilities should enable JA Solar to become a cost leader in a rapidly changing industry and establish the industry cost benchmark through technical innovation and operational efficiency by 2010.
