Sharp to enter China's handset market in June
Sharp Corp plans to expand into China's handset market and start sales from June as it is seeking more earning overseas, sources from Japan reported.
It will become the only Japanese company to sell mobile phones in China after Mitsushi and Kyocera withdrew from the market, according to sources.
"More and more Chinese consumers favor to buy high-end handsets," said the spokesman at the Japanese company. "We plan to start sales ahead of the Olympic Games with the expectation that consumers would like to have a handset with a perfect display screen so as to be able to better watch the Games anytime."
Sharp outperforms especially in producing small- and medium-sized liquid crystal panels and small-sized cameras. Its brand image for Aquos LCD TVs is improving in Chinese market.
