CLP Holdings to double capacity in Australian power station

CLP Holdings Ltd, Hong Kong's largest electricity producer, expects to double the electricity generating capacity in a gas-fired power station in Australia's New South Wales state at the end of this year.

The under- of- construction Tallawarra station will be capable of generating 420 megawatts electricity initially upon completion, according to CLP's Hong Kong-based spokesman, and it will add 400 megawatts to the company's current capacity. CLP's TRUenergy PtyA is taking charge of the project.

The company posted an increase of 19% in turnover in the first quarter of this year to hit HK$12.93 billion (US$1.66 billion). Outside home base, it also runs power plants in Australia, India and Southeast Asia.
