Sichuan aims to become shipping center in Western China

At the maritime work meeting of Sichuan province on 5 May 2008, it was revealed that efforts will be made to develop the inland province into a shipping center in Western China.

According to the plan, construction priority will be given to large container terminals that are effectively connected with railways and highways in order to create a complete and efficient cargo marshal/distribution network at and around various river ports. This should enhance the transport efficiency of Yangtze within its borders, quicken the general development of Minjiang river and promote the full use of Jialingjiang river as a broad navigation channel.
