MIIT Issues Long-Awaited 3G Licenses

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued 3G licenses to China Mobile (NYSE:CHL, 941.HK), China Telecom (NYSE:CHA, 728.HK) and China Unicom (NYSE:CHU, 762.HK, 600050.SH) on January 7, reports qq.com. As expected, China Mobile is licensed to run the TD-SCDMA network; Telecom takes CDMA 2000 and Unicom gets WCDMA. China Mobile is already operating the TD-SCDMA test network.
